PBS eight’s Iron
Country is an epic 12-hour
documentary series telling the story of
Minnesota’s three Iron Ranges and the people
who make this region their home. Hosted and
written by well known Iron Range historian
Marvin Lamppa of Babbitt, the series begins
with the geological formation of the state’s
three iron ranges and continues through the
regions pre-history and history. We look
at the Native American people who call
Iron Country their
home and move through eras which include the
fur trade, exploration, statehood, white
settlement, introduction of the timber
industry, mineral exploration, gold rush,
early mining, railroad development, boom
towns, company towns, mine development,
labor organization, strikes, town
development and much more…ending with the
development of the taconite industry.
This sweeping series is the definitive
television history of the Iron Range created
by PBS eight’s
producer/director Juli Kellner and
photographer Ted Pellman. This program was
made possible, in part, by an IRRRB matching
grant and the financial support of area
businesses.
DVD copies of individual Iron
Country episodes are available
for $29.95 (includes shipping & handling).
The entire 12 part series is available on
DVD for $199.95 (plus tax, shipping &
handling).
